The present invention provides an industrial process for producing optically active 1-alkyl-substituted-2,2,2-trifluoroethylamine, which is an important intermediate for pharmaceuticals and agricultural chemicals. An optically active imine (optically active N- (1-alkyl-2,2,2-trifluoroethylidene) -1-phenylethylamine) is asymmetrically produced in a hydrogen atmosphere using a Group VIII metal catalyst. By converting to an optically active secondary amine, the secondary amine is converted into an optically active secondary compound by deriving the secondary amine into a salt thereof and recrystallizing and purifying the secondary amine or the salt thereof. An alkyl substituted-2,2,2-trifluoroethylamine or salt thereof is prepared. By this method, optically active 1-alkyl-substituted-2,2,2-trifluoroethylamine can be obtained much more efficiently than before. [Selection figure] None |
