titleOfInvention Extrusion method for producing polycarbonate
abstract 【Task】 Reduction of catalyst amount during polycarbonate production by the melting method. [Solution] Extrusion of a mixture of an ester-substituted diaryl carbonate, such as bis (methylsalicyl) carbonate, a dihydroxy aromatic compound, such as bisphenol A, and a transesterification catalyst, such as tetrabutylphosphonium acetate (TBPA), yields a polycarbonate having a weight average molecular weight greater than 20,000 daltons. . The extruder is equipped with one or more vacuum vents to remove ester-substituted phenol by-products. Similarly, extruding a precursor polycarbonate having an ester-substituted phenoxy end group, such as a methyl salicyl end group, results in a polycarbonate having a significantly increased molecular weight. The high molecular weight polycarbonate forming reaction may be catalyzed by the residual transesterification catalyst present in the precursor polycarbonate or a combination of the residual catalyst and an additional catalyst such as TBPA introduced during the extrusion stage. No fleece product is observed in the polycarbonate product. [Selection diagram] Fig. 1
