titleOfInvention Method for separating ethyl acetate into s-butanol
abstract This method separates s-butanol impurities from ethyl acetate (EtAc) by feeding the ethyl acetate impurities to a distillation column operated at a pressure of less than 1 bar absolute value, and (1) contains ethyl acetate as a main component. And (2) a residue or second stream containing at least some s-butanol from the ethyl acetate impurity. This method is used to purify ethyl acetate by (a) a catalytic reaction of ethylene and acetic acid followed by (b) a hydrogenation step. It is difficult to separate the 2-methylethylketone impurity generated in step (a) from ethyl acetate, and the 2-methylethylketone impurity is converted into s-butanol in step (b) to obtain the fractionated vacuum fraction according to the present invention.
