The present invention provides a novel endogenous fungus, Muscodor , which produces a mixture of volatile antibiotics that are active against certain phytopathogenic bacteria, bacteria, nematodes and insects. Similarly, there is provided a method of controlling or treating plants, soil and seeds from microbial infections, comprising applying an effective amount of a volatile antibiotic producing Muscodor species. The present invention relates to fungicides, fungicides, insecticides comprising the novel Muscodor strains and antibiotics, and the metabolites produced by the strains, alone or in combination with other chemical and biological fungicides. It also relates to agents and nematicides. Also provided are methods for identifying and isolating related gas producing fungi. |
