abstract |
A process for catalytic oxidation of sulfur, nitrogen contaminants and unsaturated compounds present in hydrocarbonated petroleum is disclosed. The process involves effecting oxidation in the presence of at least one peroxide, at least one acid, and finely divided crude iron oxide. This process provides improved oxidizing power to pollutants commonly present in petroleum media. This is derived from the combination of hydroxyl radicals and peracids formed in the reaction medium due to the presence of iron oxyhydroxide, such as limonite clay, which has a particular affinity for the oil medium. This process has a variety of uses ranging from feedstocks for purification to the preparation of deep desulfurization and deep denitrification products. |
