Automatic centrifuge and method of using the same |
abstract |
An automatic centrifuge comprising a rotor and having a plurality of sample receiving elements disposed within the rotor is provided. A sample processing component has a structure insertable into one of the receiving elements, and a controller is configured to insert the sample processing component into the sample receiving element. The sample receiving elements located in the rotor are grouped into clusters, the cavities of each cluster being substantially parallel. There is also provided an automatic centrifugation system comprising a rotor comprising a plurality of clusters of receiving elements, each element including a vertical axis, wherein the vertical axes of each element in the cluster are substantially parallel. A plurality of sample processing components are arranged in groups, each group configured to be received in an adjacent cluster. The rotor positioning member has a structure that determines the position of each cluster. A controller directs the sample receiving element into the adjacent cluster and directs the rotor positioning member to rotate the rotor to position the cluster relative to the group of sample processing components. |
