abstract |
To produce an acetylpyridine of formula (I) by reacting a pyridinecarboxylic acid ester of formula (II) (where R 1 is C 1-6 alkyl) with acetic acid in the gas phase in the presence of a catalyst Is disclosed. The active material of the catalyst comprises titanium dioxide and at least one alkali or alkaline earth metal oxide, which is supported on an alumina-silica support having an apparent porosity of at least 50%. The method has the advantage that only small amounts of by-products (eg pyridine) are formed. |
