abstract | A method for treating gastric acid dysfunction with a non-enteric-coated proton pump inhibitor in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier containing a Group IA metal bicarbonate and a Group IA metal carbonate, and a Group IA metal bicarbonate Disclosed is a pharmaceutical composition of a non-enteric-coated proton pump inhibitor in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier containing a carbonate and a carbonate of a Group IA metal. A currently preferred proton pump inhibitor is lansoprazole, a currently preferred bicarbonate is sodium bicarbonate, and a currently preferred carbonate is sodium carbonate. This composition is a fast acting formulation that reduces unwanted pitting associated with proton pump inhibitor formulations containing high doses of sodium bicarbonate. |
