A method is provided for recovering arsenic trioxide from an aqueous acid effluent produced by a gas scrubbing process in a dry metallurgy process of acid solutions, particularly copper sulfide ores. In general, the method involves concentrating the acid solution in one or more evaporators in series; crystallizing arsenic contained in the concentrated solution as arsenic trioxide crystals; Filtering the solution to obtain a solid phase containing unrefined arsenic trioxide crystals; and purifying the solid phase to obtain a purified crystalline product containing arsenic trioxide. According to this method, arsenic trioxide suitable for sale can be produced without producing a solid or liquid residue subject to special handling and processing regulations. |
