titleOfInvention Stent
abstract The present invention is a stent that is designed to have optimal strength and radiopacity along with good biocompatibility. To achieve optimal radiopacity, the stent design of the present invention is tailored to the specific radiopacity and strength properties of the metal from which the stent is manufactured. Further, a coating, such as parylene, may be required to avoid corrosion of the stent by poorly biocompatible materials and / or dissimilar metals on the outer surface of the stent. Achieving optimal radiopacity can ideally be achieved with stents having a wall thickness of no more than 0.004 inches. Such stents are believed to have a pre-deployment outer diameter (or profile) that is at least 0.003 inches smaller than current commercially available stents. Ideally, the stents described herein have a wall thickness of between 0.0025 inches and 0.004 inches.
