abstract | 【Task】 The present invention provides a method for producing polycarbonate. [Solution] The method of the present invention utilizes a polycondensation catalyst that is a derivatized pyridyltriazinylpyridyl macromolecule having the general formula: A x + y [(triazinyl-pyridyl) B y- x ] Wherein A is a certain alkali metal and B contains a sulfonic, carboxylic or phosphonic acid group for charge balancing. The present inventors have discovered that this new type of catalyst provides excellent polymerization rates in producing bisphenol A polycarbonate by melt polymerization of diphenyl carbonate and bisphenol A. Furthermore, the catalyst of the present invention has been found to be very selective in that it substantially reduces the level of branching side reactions normally associated with the molten polycarbonate process, ie, the production of fleece products. |
