The present invention uses multiple spectroscopic systems and spectroscopic methods to determine tissue characteristics that are useful in diagnosing disease. In a preferred embodiment, a combination of the fluorescence spectrum, the reflectance spectrum, and the scattered light spectrum is measured and processed to obtain the biochemical, structural and morphological state of the tissue. The method and system of the present invention can be used particularly effectively for early detection of cancer in tissues, both inside and outside the body. |
