The present invention provides a pharmaceutically effective, superoxide dismutation comprising a superoxide dismutase enzyme (SOD) and a low molecular weight organic ligand mimic (SOD mimic or SODms) of the enzyme, alone or in combination with a cytokine. Compositions that enhance a mammalian immune response to cytokines by administering a catalyst. These compositions can be used in a method to enhance the immune response of a mammal against a tumor, such as hepatitis C virus or human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), or to a tumor that suppresses tumor growth. In this context, these compositions can be used in a method of treating a mammal infected with HIV or a mammal suffering from hepatitis C or AIDS. The present invention relates to a method of enhancing cancer treatment by administering a pharmaceutically effective amount of a superoxide disproportionation catalyst in combination with a cytokine and a catecholamine vasopressor to prevent and treat mammalian hypotension resulting from administration of the cytokine. How to do it. There is also provided a pharmaceutical composition comprising only a superoxide disproportionation catalyst or a combination of a cytokine and a catecholamine pressor used in the above method. |
