abstract Epoxy anthraquinone sulfonamide compounds having the formula (I) and salts thereof are disclosed. In the formula, X 1 , X 2 , X 3 , X 4 , X 5 , X 6 , X 7 and X 8 are each independently H, OH, NH 2 , C 1 -C 40 alkyl, C 1 -C 40. Alkoxy, C 1 -C 40 alkanoyl, C 1 -C 40 alkanol, C 1 -C 40 alkyl ether, C 1 -C 40 alkylthio, C 1 -C 40 alkylamino, C 1 -C 40 alkanol ether, C 1- C 40 alkylamino ether, C 1 -C 40 alkylsulfonyl, C 1 -C 40 alkyl sulfonamides, epoxy sulfonamido substituent, and selected from sulfonate substituent, provided that, X 1, X 2, X 3, X 4 , X 5 , X 6 , X 7 and X 8 are at least one epoxysulfonamide substituent. This compound and its reaction products can be used in oxygen scavenging compositions.
