The present invention relates to sulfonamide derivatives having a lipophilic component and being substantially soluble. The compounds are particularly for use as pharmaceutically active compounds. The invention also relates to a pharmaceutical formulation comprising such a sulfonamide derivative. The sulfonamide derivatives are effective modulators of the JNK pathway, and they are particularly effective and selective inhibitors of JNK2 and 3. The present invention further relates to novel sulfonamide derivatives and methods for their preparation.
