abstract |
Matrix enhancing molecules (eg, TGF-β) are conjugated to or anchored to the scaffold to increase ECM production by the cells for tissue engineering, tissue regeneration and wound healing applications. The matrix enhancing molecule is conjugated to a tether (eg, polyethylene glycol (PEG) monoacrylate) for binding to tissue engineering or cell growth scaffolds. The matrix enhancing molecule retains activity after binding to the scaffold, And to increase extracellular matrix (ECM) production to increase extracellular matrix (ECM) production without substantially increasing cell proliferation (even if the scaffold further comprises a cell adhesion ligand). Increase in ECM produced by the cells helps maintain cell integrity by either hydrolysis or enzymatic degradation (especially when the scaffold is degradable). |
