A multi-bud structure is derived from plant tissue (eg, shoot apex or axillary bud on an artificial medium) to produce a multi-bud culture. These multi-bud cultures are then transformed by known transformation methods. Subsequently, a plant is regenerated from the transformed cells. Crops that can be efficiently transformed by the methods of the present invention include normally transformed plants such as sugar beet, sunflower, soybean, cotton, tobacco, tomato, peanut, melon, watermelon, pumpkin, Brassica, and pepper. Includes plants that resist. |
