abstract |
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention is an improved tissue positioning device for securing and still removably marking a volume of tissue containing a suspected area for resection. The invention also includes a method for placement of a positioning device and for its resection with the marked tissue volume. At least one locator element is positioned on the tissue and assumes a predetermined curvilinear shape to define a tissue boundary along the path that includes the suspected tissue region. The path of the locator element preferably surrounds the most distal portion of the tissue volume without piercing the volume. A plurality of sniffer elements may be arranged to further define the tissue volume along a further path defining a tissue volume boundary that does not puncture this volume. Other locating wire embodiments are disclosed, wherein the tissue volume may be penetrated by a portion of the device. Ultra-planar and tangential configurations as well as detector elements are also disclosed. |
