A cobalt-based Fischer-Tropsch catalyst comprising a porous catalyst support and metallic cobalt crystallites inside the support. The catalyst has a proportion of cobalt in a reducible form, which can be expressed as Ω mass% based on the total mass of the catalyst before reduction. The catalyst is further reduced, when freshly reduced, to a unimodal Gaussian metal cobalt crystallite size distribution and a surface area of metal cobalt of m 2 units per gram of catalyst between 0.14Ω and 1.03Ω. And a catalyst form ensuring a stabilized Fischer-Tropsch effectiveness factor of 0.9 or greater. |
