titleOfInvention | Optical imaging of in vivo guided signals under ambient light conditions |
abstract | A method for detecting and localizing target tissue in the body in the presence of ambient light, wherein an optical contrast agent is administered and functionally localized within a contrast-labeled target tissue to be diagnosed. . The light source is optically coupled to a tissue region that has the potential to contain the target tissue labeled with contrast. A gated photodetector is optically coupled to the tissue region and positioned to detect substantially enhanced light in the target signal as compared to ambient light, wherein the target signal is labeled with contrast. Light that has been transmitted into the affected tissue area and modified by the contrast agent. The computer receives the signals from the detectors and sends these signals to a memory for storage and storage, and then to an image processing engine to determine the localization and distribution of the contrast agent. The computer also prepares an output signal based on the localization and distribution of the contrast agent, allowing detection, localization, or imaging of minute amounts of target tissue. A system for performing the method is also described. |
