titleOfInvention |
Use of secretin-receptor ligands in the treatment of cystic fibrosis (CF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) |
abstract |
The present invention is based on the finding that secretin receptors are expressed in tissues located in the distal part of a human lung. In CF patients, the levels of the receptor are elevated compared to normal tissues. Treatment of the tissue with secretin stimulates the movement of anions in the tissue. The present invention provides cystic fibrosis or pancreatic fibrosis by administering to a patient with cystic fibrosis or COPD an effective amount of an agent that induces anion efflux in respiratory tissue through activation of secretin receptors. Methods for treating COPD are provided. |
