abstract The present invention relates to a novel method for preparing polymers, comprising a polythiol monomer having at least two thiol groups; and a polycyanate having at least two functional groups selected from isocyanates, isothiocyanates and combinations thereof. A first component comprising at least one polycyanate reactant having at least two functional groups selected from isocyanates, isothiocyanates and combinations thereof; and a primary amine; A second component containing at least one polyamine reactant having at least two functional groups selected from diamines and combinations thereof. Molar equivalent ratio of (-NH 2 + -NH-) groups from (NCO + NCS) groups and the second component from the first component is from 0.5 to 100. The present invention is also directed to a polymer prepared by the method of the present invention. Furthermore, the present invention is directed to photochromic articles prepared from the polymers of the present invention.
