abstract An object of the present invention is to provide a method for producing ultrafine particles of a noble metal such as silver, gold, platinum or the like, which can obtain nanoparticle (average particle diameter of 30 nm or less) and ultrafine particles having a small particle size distribution easily and with good reproducibility. A metal salt represented by the following general formula (1) is dissolved or dispersed in an organic solvent, and irradiated with microwaves in that state to excite the metal salt, thereby comprising a metal in the metal salt.
