PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an insert for a cutting tool having a sintered alumina and silicon carbide whisker composite material body and a method for producing the same, which exhibit improved wear resistance and toughness behavior. A powdered starting material of a sintered alumina and silicon carbide whisker composite material is ground and mixed to form the material into a preformed workpiece, up to a sintering temperature of 1600-2300 ° C. Sintering comprising heating the workpiece at a heating rate of 20-60 ° C./min and holding at the sintering temperature at a pressure of 20-100 MPa for a holding time of 5-60 minutes.
