abstract An object of the present invention is to provide a novel agent for protecting animal cells and a method for protecting the same, which can be widely applied to organ transplantation / surgery, etc., using a new substance not known in the prior art as an active ingredient. The cytoprotective agent of the present invention is an entirely new cytoprotective agent containing a methylated catechin derivative as an active ingredient, and is preserved by adding the methylated catechin derivative to a culture medium for animal cells.
