abstract A distance between a portion where plasma discharge is caused and a phosphor is long, and the generated vacuum ultraviolet light is attenuated before reaching the phosphor, resulting in low luminous efficiency. If the distance between the discharge position and the phosphor surface is too short, the phosphor is deteriorated by vacuum ultraviolet light, and the light emission life is shortened. The brightness and long-term reliability of a PDP are improved by making a partition wall or a phosphor surface have a tapered shape or a curved surface shape and keeping the distance between the phosphor surface and the plasma emission portion constant.
