abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which reduces image defects while maintaining the conveying ability of a recording material. SOLUTION: In the moving direction of the transfer belt 71, the length of the area where the transfer belt 71 contacts the transfer blade 74 is longer than the length of the area where the photosensitive drum 1 contacts the recording material carried on the transfer belt 71. The transfer belt 71 includes a first layer that carries a recording material and a second layer that is in contact with the transfer unit during image transfer, and the surface resistivity of the first layer is the second layer.
