abstract | When applied to a recording medium such as glossy paper or ink jet dedicated paper, the user does not need to perform the discrimination of the front and back surfaces of the recording medium, the discrimination of the front and rear insertion directions, the discrimination of the paper type, and the paper size setting. An ink jet recording medium that can maintain a good appearance, and can print without any print disturbance in the printing portion, and can obtain a printed material with no margins or a uniform layout between the printing portion and the margin portion. An ink jet recording medium comprising a sheet having an ink receiving layer on a support is provided with at least one pair of detection holes penetrating in the thickness direction thereof, and a method of manufacturing the recording medium. The opening shape is line-symmetric with respect to a first central axis or a second central axis orthogonal to the first central axis along the transport direction during recording of the sheet in the inkjet recording apparatus.
