abstract | An object of the present invention is to provide a method for producing a thermoplastic copolymer having high heat resistance and high colorless transparency. A raw copolymer (A) containing (i) an unsaturated carboxylic acid alkyl ester unit and (ii) an unsaturated carboxylic acid unit is subjected to heat treatment using a twin-screw / single-screw composite continuous kneading and extruding apparatus. And (ii) a method for producing (iii) a thermoplastic copolymer (B) containing a glutaric anhydride unit by performing a dehydration and / or (b) a dealcoholization reaction, wherein A single-screw composite continuous kneading and extruding apparatus, which has a twin-screw part and a single-screw part, and is provided with a flow control mechanism in a communication part between the twin-screw part and the single-screw part, and the casing has a twin-screw part; A method for producing a thermoplastic copolymer, comprising: a raw material supply port communicating with a screw portion; and a discharge port communicating with an end of the extended first shaft.
