abstract The present invention provides a simple method for producing steroid compounds such as lithocholic acid, ursodeoxycholic acid, chenodeoxycholic acid, glycodeoxycholic acid, and taurodeoxycholic acid, which are useful in the pharmaceutical and food chemical industries. A steroid compound having a 3-position oxygen functional group, a 5-position double bond, a carboxylic acid at the 24-position, and a 7-position oxygen functional group using desmosterol as a raw material, 3β-acetoxy-5-cholen-7-one 24-Oic acid-methyl ester is synthesized. Using this as a synthetic intermediate, bile acids such as ursodeoxycholic acid, chenodeoxycholic acid, taurochenodeoxycholic acid, and glycochenodeoxycholic acid are produced.
