PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium having an increased signal-to-noise ratio in a high-density broadband. A non-magnetic base material having a front surface and a back surface, a lower support layer formed to cover the front surface, and a magnetic upper recording layer formed to cover the lower layer are provided. Including a two-layer magnetic recording medium. Here, the magnetic layer contains magnetic metallic pigment particles having a coercivity of at least about 2000 Oe and a binder system for the pigment. The magnetic recording medium exhibits a squareness ratio greater than 0.84 and a front coating Wyko Ra (average roughness) value of less than 5.5 nm, preferably less than 4.0 nm, and the magnetic medium has , 151 kfci with a BBSNR greater than 11 dB.
