abstract | An object of the present invention is to provide easy recording which gives a high chroma magenta recording material for aqueous ink jet recording. A recording liquid comprising an aqueous medium and at least one dye selected from monoazo dyes in the form of a free acid represented by the following general formula (1). (In the formula, A represents a phenyl group having a carboxyl group bonded to the ortho-position to the azo group and further having at least a halogen atom as a substituent, and R 5 represents a hydrogen atom or a substituted or unsubstituted C 1-9 carbon atom. R 6 and R 6 ′ each independently represent a hydrogen atom, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group having 3 or less carbon atoms, or a substituted or unsubstituted alkenyl group having 3 or less carbon atoms.
