titleOfInvention | Ferroelectric liquid crystal composition and liquid crystal device |
abstract | A ferroelectric liquid crystal composition comprising at least one optically active compound, wherein the liquid crystal composition is sealed between a pair of electrode substrates, and further disposed between a pair of orthogonal polarizers. When a rectangular wave having a predetermined frequency and a predetermined voltage is applied, the amount of transmitted light [Tr (T)] at a temperature T ° C. lower than the smectic A phase → chiral smectic C phase transition temperature, and a temperature lower than the temperature T ° C. When the ratio [RTr [%] = 100 × Tr (T−Ta) / Tr (T)] of the transmitted light amount [Tr (T−Ta)] at a low temperature of ° C. (Ta is 20 or more) is 50% or more. A certain ferroelectric liquid crystal composition and a liquid crystal device using the composition. According to the present invention, there is provided a liquid crystal composition having a high-speed response in which the driving temperature of a liquid crystal is extended, and in particular, driving characteristics at a low temperature are improved.
