abstract | A thermal expansion material made of resin, which is easy to manufacture, can maintain a compressed state for a long period of time, has a large amount of expansion by heating, and has excellent sealing performance and soundproofing performance, and a soundproof cover for an automobile engine having excellent soundproofing performance. A foamable composition containing a crosslinkable crystalline thermoplastic resin is molded into a predetermined shape, crosslinked and foamed, and then heated to a temperature equal to or higher than the melting point of the crosslinkable crystalline thermoplastic resin. The heat-expandable material is compressed and cooled to a temperature equal to or lower than the melting point of the crosslinkable crystalline thermoplastic resin while being compressed, and expands by heat from the compressed state.
