abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gene that controls flowering of a plant and a method of using the same. SOLUTION: The present inventors performed high-precision linkage analysis of a late gene locus (Lhd4 locus) that regulates heading time detected between rice cultivars Hoshino Yume and Kasalath using a large-scale segregated population. As a result, the Lhd4 gene that regulates the heading time of rice was successfully isolated. It has also been found that the heading time of rice is altered by the introduction of the gene. From the above, it is considered that the newly isolated Lhd4 gene can be used for regulating the heading time of plants, and can be used for efficient development and breeding of excellent new varieties.
