abstract | An image forming method capable of obtaining a lithographic printing plate excellent in printing durability after image exposure without passing through a liquid development processing step, and an image exposure apparatus suitable therefor are provided. . An image exposure apparatus scans and exposes a planographic printing plate precursor 12 with an infrared laser based on digital image information to form an image corresponding to the digital image information. The image recording layer of the lithographic printing plate precursor 12 contains microcapsules encapsulating a cationic polymerizable compound, an acid generator, and a photothermal conversion agent. In the image exposure apparatus 10, an exposure head 26 is disposed facing the outer drum 20, and the lithographic printing plate precursor 12 mounted on the outer drum 20 is scanned and exposed by the IR laser L. The image exposure apparatus 10 is provided with a preheating device 38 for heating (preheating) the entire lithographic printing plate precursor 12 in the middle of the feeding path, and preheating is performed before exposure.
