abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a catalyst used for producing chlorine from hydrogen chloride, characterized in that the decrease in catalytic activity during the reaction is small. SOLUTION: This is a method for producing a catalyst in which an alkali metal compound and a ruthenium compound containing ruthenium oxide, which are used when oxidizing hydrogen chloride with oxygen to produce chlorine, are supported on a carrier. A method for producing a catalyst for chlorine production, comprising preparing a catalyst carrying a ruthenium compound containing the same, and then adding an alkali metal compound. Known carriers such as titanium oxide, aluminum oxide, zirconium oxide, and silicon dioxide are used as the carrier. Two or more composites can also be used. A preferred carrier is titanium oxide.
