abstract An object of the present invention is to provide a charging device used in an electrophotographic recording device or an electrostatic recording device, which can reduce the amount of ozone generated without causing charging unevenness. The present invention provides a shield plate having an opening facing a rotatable image carrier, a plurality of discharge electrodes in which a plurality of serrated protrusions are arranged facing the image carrier, and a plurality of discharge electrodes are provided. In a charging device provided with a grid electrode between a carrier and the discharge electrode, the charging electrode is located on the downstream side in the image carrier rotation direction with respect to the pitch between protrusions of the discharge electrode located on the upstream side in the image carrier rotation direction. The pitch between the protrusions of the discharge electrode is reduced. [Selection diagram] Fig. 1
