[Object] To produce an aromatic carboxylic acid, acetic acid is recovered from a reaction exhaust gas generated from an oxidation reactor, and pressure energy is efficiently recovered by a gas turbine, and then methyl bromide contained in the reaction exhaust gas is recovered. To provide a method that can be efficiently combusted and removed together with flammable substances. According to the method for treating a reaction exhaust gas of the present invention, an acetic acid solvent is used to convert an aromatic compound having an alkyl substituent into an oxidation reactor under pressure in the presence of a catalyst containing a bromine compound. When producing aromatic carboxylic acid, acetic acid is recovered from the reaction exhaust gas generated from the oxidation reactor, the pressure energy is recovered by a gas turbine, and then the reaction exhaust gas containing combustible substances together with methyl bromide is subjected to combustion treatment. In the above method, the methyl bromide and the combustible substance are burned together with the fuel at a temperature of 820 ° C. or more in a regenerative combustion furnace.
