An object of the present invention is to provide an electrolyte membrane which solves problems of permeation and swelling of methanol in an electrolyte membrane for a direct alcohol fuel cell, has high productivity, is inexpensive, and has excellent durability when operated as a fuel cell. The porous substrate has a pore filled with a polymer having an ion exchange group, and the polymer is obtained from an ion exchange group-containing monomer or from a mixture of the monomer and a crosslinking agent. In the manufacturing process, the polymer precursor is filled into a porous base material that has been activated in advance by irradiation with active energy rays such as radiation, ultraviolet rays, electron beams, or plasma, ozone, or corona discharge. And a method for producing an electrolyte membrane, which comprises irradiating an electron beam when polymerizing a polymer precursor. [Selection diagram] None |
