abstract | An object of the present invention is to provide a method for producing an optical resin and an optical component comprising polybenzoazole having higher transparency. SOLUTION: The following structural formula (1): Embedded image Structural formula (1) (Wherein R 1 represents a tetravalent organic group containing an aromatic ring, and two sets of NH and XH are respectively bonded to the aromatic ring in R 1 at the ortho position. In the formula, R 2 represents a divalent organic group, X represents an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom, and the number of repeating units is from 1 to 1000. A method for producing an optical resin, wherein the resin is heated and cured in a gas atmosphere; and a resin having the above-mentioned polybenzoazole precursor as a component is applied on a substrate, and heated and cured in an inert gas atmosphere.
