| abstract | A surgical staple having a first undeployed configuration for loading into a stapler and a second deployed configuration for connecting tissue together is provided. The staple has a crown portion, a first foot portion, and a second foot portion, each of which is attached to each end of the crown portion. Each foot is composed of a first layer of material 30 and a second layer of material 40 that are joined together. The material of the first layer is a superelastic alloy having a relaxed morphology substantially in the second configuration of the staple. Also, the material of the second layer is a linear elastic material having a relaxed state substantially in the first shape of the staple.
