abstract | A method of manufacturing a black matrix in which a linear light-shielding portion between adjacent openings is thinned, a method of manufacturing a resin black matrix and a photomask used therefor, and a linear light-shielding portion between adjacent openings is thinned. Provided are a resin black matrix, a color filter using the resin black matrix, and a high-definition liquid crystal display device using the color filter. A transparent black substrate is coated with a negative type black resist, and a transparent mask substrate is provided with a large number of rectangular light-shielding patterns arranged in a matrix arrangement at intervals vertically and horizontally on a transparent mask substrate. The negative type resist is exposed through a photomask composed of a small opening-light-shielding portion composite pattern in which a large number of small rectangular openings having short sides along the sides of the light-shielding pattern are connected via the light-shielding portion.
