PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a field emission device capable of structurally preventing generation of stray electrons, in particular, efficiently preventing deformation and turbulence of a mesh grid, thereby realizing high quality image and reducing manufacturing cost. And a method for manufacturing the same, which display a high-quality image. SOLUTION: A field emission element in which a mesh grid is brought into close contact with the surface of an FEA on a substrate, and a tension is applied to the mesh grid by a predetermined tension member in order to bring the mesh grid into close contact, and a high quality image is obtained by using the field emission element.
