abstract | [Object] To provide a method for efficiently using a catalyst in producing a carbonyl compound by dehydrating an alcohol in a liquid phase in the presence of a complex catalyst. A method for producing a carbonyl compound by dehydrogenation of an alcohol, comprising the following steps: (A): a dehydrogenation step in which a complex catalyst and an alcohol are supplied to a dehydrogenation reaction zone, and the alcohol is dehydrogenated in a liquid phase to produce a carbonyl compound. (B): A reaction solution obtained by the dehydrogenation reaction is distilled. And a distillation step (c) of obtaining a distillate containing a carbonyl compound and a residual liquid containing a complex catalyst: supplying the residual liquid obtained in the distillation step to the dehydrogenation reaction zone as at least a part of the complex catalyst.
