abstract | Provided is an exhaust gas purification catalyst including a sufficient HC adsorption layer capable of adsorbing and purifying HC and a NOx purification layer capable of sufficiently exhibiting NOx purification performance without increasing exhaust pressure. The catalyst layer has a three-layer structure including an inner layer, an intermediate layer, and a surface layer. The inner layer mainly contains zeolite and functions as an HC adsorbing layer, and contains an alkali component coexisting with Ce, a catalyst noble metal, and Zr. An intermediate layer containing an alkali component, a catalyst noble metal, and zeolite, which also coexists with Ce, is interposed between a surface layer that contains alumina supporting the catalyst and that functions as a NOx adsorption purification catalyst layer.
