abstract The present invention provides a device that does not lose the validity of a measurement result due to the influence of respiration and has a high responsiveness of a heart volume. The arterial pressure is continuously monitored by a pressure sensor (6) in an artery (7), and the arterial pressure is regarded as Pao, which substantially matches the aortic pressure. The central venous pressure measured by the pressure sensor 8 in the central vein 3 is continuously monitored, and the central venous pressure (CVP) is regarded as the intrathoracic pressure. A third reading is provided in the form of a strain gauge (DMS) reading representing thorax compliance.
