abstract Kind Code: A1 The present invention relates to a novel method for synthesizing an activated bisimide for the production of poly (ether imide) which does not require nitration. Kind Code: A1 A method for synthesizing poly (ether imide) comprises reacting 4-halotetrahydrophthalic anhydride (III) with an activated primary amine to form an activated 4-halotetrahydrophthalimide (IV). The 4-halotetrahydrophthalimide is aromatized and then treated with the disodium salt of bis (phenol) to give the activated bisimide (VI), which is then treated directly with the diamine to form the poly (ether imide).
