PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polymer obtained by polymerizing a sulfonate-containing vinyl monomer and a water-soluble crosslinkable monomer in an aqueous medium, which has a high affinity for water, that is, a reaction with potassium ions in the intestinal tract. Provided are a potassium ion adsorbent having a large number of contact opportunities and a copolymer having a large potassium ion adsorption amount as a main component, and a production method. SOLUTION: A copolymer comprising a sulfonate-containing vinyl monomer and a water-soluble crosslinkable monomer as a main component, wherein the degree of swelling of the copolymer in water is 10 times or more.
