A lamp having a limited crest factor and a long life is realized. In the metal halide lamp having a color temperature Tc and 90 or more of the average color rendering index Ra is between 4500K from A 3900K, ionizable metal halide fill includes a 30 to 50 mol% calcium iodide CaI 2. Also, the molar amount of the Tl halide, in addition to mercury, is between 3 and 10% of the total molar amount of halide in the ionized packing.
